Air New Zealand at California Roadshow

Words & Pictures: John Pond. The first exhibit that was getting a lot of attention was two rows of three seats from an Air New Zealand plane, the seats had been specially configured to pull out into a bed (over the three seats). I asked the young Air NZ rep. if a single person, such as myself could buy the three seats and use it for one person.  His answer was in the affirmative.  I said would the price be the same as three normal seats?  He said “Yes, but there would be a rebate of between $300-800 depending on the plane’s load factor”.  It all sounds too complicated.

Over the years I had often tried to buy two seats for myself (being a tall man) and all airlines had refused – silly them.  Finally they are seeing the light.

The most helpful of those on the stand was Sharon Brown, Account Manager International Sales, who made sense of it all.  Another gentleman on the stand said he was the Long Haul Ambassador, wow, apparently he went around espousing the merits of Air New Zealand’s new seats.  He was in the middle of explaining more to me when an old friend of his came past and he deserted me.  Oh well, guess they don’t need the publicity.

Actually I am an Air NZ fan and think their new seat look terrific. Perhaps they may invite me to have a closer look when thir new seats and planes come on line.

John.
